Hereditary diseases and carrier’s screening programs in genetically isolated populations

There are populations that have kept apart for many centuries, show less genetic variability and they differ in their structure from representatives of other groups isolates. The high degree isolation small human generations has created good conditions gene drift. Due to population mechanisms, such as the founder effect or bottleneck there is a burden hereditary diseases, which observed isolated populations, negatively affects both social economic level, well quality life. This review provides information about diseases genetically existing carrier’s screening programs feasibility its implementation.

Gene finding in genetically isolated populations.
The struggle to identify susceptibility genes for complex disorders has stimulated geneticists to develop new approaches. One approach that has gained considerable interest is to focus on genetically isolated populations rather than on the general population. There remains much controversy and theoretical debate over the feasibility and advantages of such populations, but recent results speak i...
متن کاملA cost-effectiveness analysis of colorectal screening of hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal carcinoma gene carriers.
BACKGROUND It has been estimated that the prevalence of carriers of a mutated mismatch repair (MMR) gene among the general population in Western countries is between 5 and 50 per 10,000. These carriers have a risk of >85% of developing colorectal carcinoma (CRC) and therefore need careful follow-up. The objective of this study was to analyze the cost-effectiveness of CRC surveillance of carrier...
متن کاملGenetically breeding populations of computer programs to solve problems in artificial intelligence
This paper describes the recently developed "genetic programming" paradigm which genetically breeds populations of computer programs to solve problems. In genetic programming, the individuals in the population are hierarchical computer programs of various sizes and shapes. Three applications to problems in artificial intelligence are presented. Introduction and Overview This paper describes the...
متن کاملLearning And Improvement In Hereditary Diseases
Thank you for inviting me to give this year’s Desmond Whyte lecture and for the President’s very kind introduction. It is a great honour to give this lecture, and particularly in Altnagelvin hospital where I spent many Wednesdays in outpatients seeing families with genetic disorders, and regularly availed of the excellent radiology service that Desmond had set up some years ago. The title of th...
متن کاملHereditary Retinal Diseases
INTRODUCTION The spectrum of hereditary retinal disease in the dog is well defi ned and closely related to the intensive breeding patterns which are used in some breeds. Many retinopathies are often detected as the result of routine screening in the absence of dramatic clinical features or noticeable disturbance of sight for, while our clients may notice the painful or discoloured eye, few reco...
